Johannes Kepler

(27 December 1571 – 15 November 1630) was a German astronomer, mathematician, astrologer, natural philosopher, and music writer. He is a crucial figure in the 17th-century Scientific Revolution, best known for his laws of planetary motion and his books Astronomia Nova, Harmonice Mundi, and Epitome Astronomiae Copernicanae, influencing Isaac Newton, among others, providing one of the foundations for his theory of universal gravitation. The variety and impact of his work made Kepler one of the founders and fathers of modern astronomy, the scientific method, and natural and contemporary science.

Sir Isaac Newton

(25 December 1642 – 20 March 1726/27) was an English polymath active as a mathematician, physicist, astronomer, alchemist, and theologian. He was crucial in the Scientific Revolution and the Enlightenment that followed. His pioneering book Philosophiæ Naturalis Principia Mathematica (Mathematical Principles of Natural Philosophy), first published in 1687, consolidated many previous results and established classical mechanics.
